Important Update Regarding Online CEUs in the State of Illinois

Due to COVID-19, the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation has issued waivers for the following mental health professions to obtain all of their continuing education hours online. Visit the IDFPR website for details. Below is a summary of the emergency orders.

Marriage and Family Therapists: CE Renewal Deadline is February 28, 2021
Statutory Authority: Implementing the Marriage and Family Therapy Licensing Act [225 ILCS 55] and authorized by Section 2105-15(7) of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois [20 ILCS 2105/2105-15(7)].

The purpose of the proposed amendment is to relax the in-person requirement to allow licensees to satisfy their CE requirements by participating in online CE courses. The proposed amendment updates the CE requirements for marriage and family therapists by removing in-person requirements for CE. This change will allow licensees to earn CE credits through in-person and online programs.

Professional Counselors (LPC/LCPC): CE Renewal Deadline is March 31, 2021
Statutory Authority: Implementing the Professional Counselor and Clinical Professional Counselor Licensing Act [225 ILCS 107] and authorized by Section 60(7) of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois [20 ILCS 2105/60(7)].

The purpose of the proposed amendment is to relax the in-person requirement to allow licensees to satisfy their CE requirements by participating in online CE courses. The proposed amendment updates the continuing education requirements for professional counselors and clinical professional counselors by removing in-person requirements for CE. This change will allow licensees to earn CE credits through in-person and online programs.

Guidance for Clinical Social Workers and Social Workers Renewing November 2021

The Department intends that all 30 CE hours required for the November 2021 renewal may be completed online either by live, real-time presentations, or through prerecorded video provided by approved CE sponsors.
