Continuing Education

The Professional Development Program at the Crown Family School is a licensed State of Illinois provider of Continuing Education for social workers (LSW/LCSW), clinical psychologists, marriage and family therapists, and professional counselors (LPC/LCPC). License #s 159.000140, 168.000115, and 268.000004.

It is recommended that professionals review Continuing Education rules for their licensing board prior to registering for a workshop to ensure that the content meets their renewal requirements.    

Some workshops offer credits for CADC licensed professionals applied for through the Illinois Certification Board, Inc. See specific descriptions.

At the end of each workshop, participants will receive a certificate indicating the number of continuing education hours received. One CEU is awarded for every classroom contact hour, as noted in the workshop description. Tuition must be paid in full before the certificate is issued. In order to preserve the integrity of the learning experience and to comply with the state’s certification requirements, attendance for the full session is expected and participants may receive continuing education credit only for hours of actual attendance.

Replacement or duplicate certificates can be provided for a $15.00 fee. Duplicate certificates will not be issued for courses attended before 2007.

Continuing Education Credit Information

Social Workers: Licensed social workers (LSW/LCSW) in Illinois must complete 30 hours of continuing education (CE) relevant to the practice of social work or clinical social work. At least three of the 30 hours must include content related to the ethical practice of social work and, effective December 1, 2013, at least three of the 30 hours must include content related to cultural competence in the practice of social work. A prerenewal period is the 24 months preceding November 30 of each odd-numbered year. One CE hour shall equal one clock hour. A renewal applicant shall not be required to comply with CE requirements for the first renewal of an Illinois license. Social workers or clinical social workers licensed in Illinois but residing and practicing in other states shall comply with the CE requirements set forth in this Section.

Clinical Psychologists: Clinical Psychologists in Illinois must complete 24 hours of continuing education (CE). At least three of the 24 hours must include content related to the ethical practice of Clinical Psychology. A prenewal period is the 24 months preceding September 30 of each even numbered year. One CE hour shall equal one clock hour of attendance. After completion of the initial CE hour, credit may be given in one-half hour increments. A renewal applicant shall not be required to comply with CE requirements for the first renewal of an Illinois license. Clinical psychologists licensed in Illinois but residing and practicing in other states shall comply with the CE requirement set forth in this Section. Continuing education credit hours used to satisfy the CE requirements of another jurisdiction may be applied to fulfill the CE requirements of the State of Illinois.

Professional Counselors: Professional counselors (LPC/LCPC) in Illinois must complete 30 hours of continuing education. All clinical professional counselors are required to complete 18 hours in clinical supervision training of the 30 continuing education hours required. This is a one time (lifetime) requirement. All supervision training successfully completed subsequent to September 1, 2003 can be applied to the 18 hours of clinical supervision continuing education required. A prerenewal period is the 24 months preceding March 31 of each odd-numbered year. One CE hour shall equal one clock hour of attendance. After completion of the initial CE hour, credit may be given in one-half hour increments. A renewal applicant shall not be required to comply with CE requirements for the first renewal of an Illinois license. Professional counselors or clinical professional counselors licensed in Illinois but residing and practicing in other states or jurisdictions shall comply with the CE requirements set forth in this Section. Continuing education credit hours used to satisfy the CE requirements of another jurisdiction may be applied to fulfill the CE requirements of the State of Illinois.

Marriage and Family Therapists: Marriage and Family Therapists (MFT) must complete within the prerenewal period 30 hours of continuing education (CE) relevant to the practice of marriage and family therapy. A prerenewal period is the 24 months preceding February 28 of each odd-numbered year. One CE hour shall equal one clock hour. A renewal applicant shall not be required to comply with CE requirements for the first renewal of an Illinois license. Marriage and family therapists licensed in Illinois but residing and practicing in other states shall comply with the CE requirements set forth in this Section.
